Why is everyone into Tesla lately? by @clawrence
Answer by Craig Lawrence:
People don’t buy cars based on economics. If so, why would anyone pay $100K+ for this (Maserati)?
When they can have this for $20K (Kia)?
Same number of doors, same number of seats, similar styling, better gas mileage, lower maintenace costs.
The purchase of cars is typically not a rational, economic decision. Tesla has done a great job of creating a desirable car – it is as desirable to many, many people as other non-electric cars in the same price range – it’s sexy, and has great performance.
Oh, and it’s also electric. Which many people desire not only to save money on gas, but out of a belief that it is a better choice for the environment.
