Is there a private firm similar to SpaceX in India that is competing with the ISRO? by Veda Sree

Answer by Veda Sree:

Edit:At this point of time….a big NO(for those who can’t read the answer till the end) and YES,may be in the future. Its commercialization need not be same as Spacex which manufactures rockets, it may commercialize robotic space explorations or anything they are working and will work.

  • There is a Bengaluru based startup called TeamIndus led by Rahul Narayan, with former ISRO scientists working as full time employees that plans to be the first private company to land on the moon.
  • TeamIndus, the only Indian team in the Google Lunar XPRIZE competition, is building a privately funded Spacecraft capable of soft landing on the Moon by 2017. TeamIndus was one of five teams selected to compete in the Milestone prizes and successfully won $1M as a Milestone prize for our landing technology, last year.

For now, it is taking baby steps as a private firm to foray into commercialization of space technology in India. So,may be in coming years, it can be the potential competitor to ISRO.
